It’s true the saying’ “many hands make light work”. It’s also true a real champion will surface, not by what he says but what he does and at Dixon Park in all the work and all the volunteers one person stood out, Stan Masima! A father of nine and professional painter Stan along with a number of his kids under the guidance of Pastors Jonathan Nicholson and Mick Hannah from Generation City Church ‘owned this project’! Starting work a couple of weeks ago Stan let loose with his airless spray gun, many in awe of what one man can do.  These three guys had Jason Cleare from NCC and Nat Lantry from Dixon Park SLSC on the move as huge amounts of work was getting done well before the proposed CityServe weekend of October 5 and 6.

Thankyou speech by club president Stuart

Saturday 5th October 7.30am arrived and 60+ volunteers enjoyed an egg and bacon role before their briefing. Thanks to the previous work by Stan and the guys this club received a lot more work than was previously planned. An entire external colour change, interior painted throughout, toilet blocks, gym, stairs, seating, beach fencing, tiling and rails polished all delivered complete just after lunch on the Saturday! An amazing effort by everyone involved with volunteers from the club, church and community celebrating with a BBQ on the club deck.

After the work was finished

This club was certainly the largest surf club project of the six and to witness what happened was truly astonishing and a testament to what can happen when the community works together!

This weekend Nobby’s and Stockton Surf Clubs get some CityServe attention. Volunteers are welcome!

Serving together
