OneDay Efforts Saluted!

Posted by:

The new Lord Mayor of Newcastle Jeff McCloy and State Member for Newcastle Tim Owen MP have applauded the great work of volunteers involved in the CityServe OneDay initiative.

The Lord Mayor said the volunteers were setting a great example and he valued the contribution they were making to the city. Tim Owen, who has been a strong supporter of CityServe in our planning this year, said he was excited to see what the churches had achieved in year one of the initiative and he looked forward to how CityServe would grow in the years ahead.

These comments are of great encouragement to the CityServe Planning Team – as one of our key goals for this long-term initiative is to gain the favour and support of civic leaders as we demonstrate faith in action across our region.

It was a great weekend of service across the region, capping off what has been a great few months as more than 800 volunteers have rolled up their sleeves to serve their communities in the name of Jesus – from Raymond Terrace to Rathmines, from Hunter Street, Newcastle, to Port Stephens. More than 50 projects have been completed – some large, some small – but all making a practical and tangible difference in the lives of the recipients.

This year was always about laying a platform on which to build and we have been greatly encouraged by the response of churches, the support from civic leaders and the business community and the media coverage we have received. There are still churches planning projects for the next few months and we look forward to CityFest with Luis Palau at the Newcastle Foreshore on November 17-18 as the Good News of Jesus is celebrated with thousands of people.

Thank you to everyone who has supported CityServe in 2012 and we look forward to sharing more information with you in the coming months about plans for 2013.

In the meantime, if you were involved in a project, and have stories and photos to share then please send them in to info@cityserve.com.au

Thanks again to all who have been involved. And we thank our great God for his blessing on this initiative.
