Stockton Surf Club gets a CityServe blitz

Is there a better way to start a Saturday morning than a bacon an egg roll on the beach? That’s how Saturday 12th October started as around 70 volunteers gathered at Stockton SLSC ready for a CityServe transformation on the club!

IMAG1939 (Mobile)This SLSC was spearheaded by The Grainery Church with volunteers coming from Life Church, Surfside Presbyterian Church, Stockton SLSC and members of the community. The Grainery point leader Russell Burgess along with Stockton SLSC’s Kevin ‘Jacko’ Jackson and Doug Harrison from NCC mobilized the troops in what turned out to be a magnificent community effort to deliver the club completed on the Sunday afternoon.

Jacko also did a huge amount of work leading up to the weekend along with members of the club pressure cleaning the exterior, preparing roller doors and gathering club volunteers.

A shelter improvement steered by Chris Bathgate from The Grainery was erected by lunch Saturday and completed on the Sunday with three coats of paint on the Sunday by ‘Macca’ and his team. Tony Urquhart did a super job all weekend and ensured Sunday went well, and it did! The change rooms, foyer, gym, boat shed, first aid room, office and the entire external of the club received a fresh coat of paint and hand rails polished ready for the veranda to be tiled Monday. Club members ensured volunteers had full stomachs each morning with breakfast and lunch with some ladies from The Grainery.

All volunteers are to be congratulated on an excellent weekend completing more that was planned, thankyou!

This was the fourth SLSC club of six completed over three weekends and volunteers are welcomed to number five, Newcastle this coming weekend! It’s not too late to volunteer, head to the Signups page.
